Urban design competition
Redevelopping the Namur / Jean-Talon Ouest neighbourhood
This project, translated into an urban design competition is part of another more ambitious project, which focuses on the development and regeneration of the entire Namur-Jean-talon Ouest neighbourhood. Led by Cote-des-Neiges - Notre-Dame-de-Grace, this project aims to guide and assist private developers in planning their real estate projects, mainly residential, and enhance the development of public spaces in the sector, which will become increasingly important with the massive influx of thousands of new residents in the coming years.
The area concerned by the competition, whose development is rather unstructured and where spaces dedicated to automobiles are everywhere, was identified in 2005 as a space desperately requiring redefinition, since the urban space presents great potential. Consequently, the sector has been the subject of several prospective and analytical studies, not to mention the development, in 2008-2009, of a comprehensive vision inspired by the TOD's (Transit Oriented Development) approach.
In this context, the project whose subject is the competition has as a primary objective to redevelop some of the major roads in the neighbourhood into quality public spaces, pushing to enhance social interaction in an environment with great sociocultural diversity, to encourage citizens to make the spaces their own and to build a new identity for the neighbourhood.
