The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, with the financial contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Communications, wishes to proceed with the construction of a new pavilion that will house the most recent and important donation made in the history of the museum since its founding , the collection of Michal and Renata Hornstein.
This new pavilion will be located on Bishop Street south of the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion, as illustrated by the firm PROVENCHER ROY + ASSOCIÉS ARCHITECTES in Appendix 7. The gross planned area is of the order of 2 800 m2 including 2 410 m2 spread over four levels above ground devoted mainly to exhibition spaces; and, a basement level of 390 m2 with a free height of 5 meters for the storage of works. The new pavilion will be connected to the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion by an aerial link that will span the access to the alley and will also have a visitor entrance on Bishop Street. The ceiling clearance required for each level will be 5 meters ensuring the capacity to accommodate the large formats of the collection.
Pavilion 5 must be designed in accordance with international standards for museum design and conservation. This pavilion must be integrated into the urban fabric and its context.
The construction budget is in the order of $ 14 million before taxes and excluding the development of exhibitions. The promoteur emphasizes the obligation to respect this budget. In this regard, all applicants will have to demonstrate their ability to meet this requirement.
