This limited consultation by invitation, under the direction of a consultation committee, aimed at the construction of a new École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC). A new building of 43,700m2 would be located on a site between the University of Montréal's Faculty of Planning Pavilion and the Jean-de-Brébeuf College.

During the first stage of this competition, seven firms or architectural consortiums were invited to elaborate, in fifteen days, a concept-sketch. Following this initial stage, each firm selected by the committee was asked to prepare a presentation of their proposed concept and demonstrate their capacity to successfully complete the project. The team of Dan S. Hanganu, architectes, won this competition. The jury then requested that the winning team collaborate with the firm of Jodoin Lamarre Pratte for the execution of the project.
