The upcoming construction of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec's third pavillion will contribute to the creation of a significant museum complex for Quebec City. While the Charles Baillairgé and Gérard-Morisset pavilions occupy a part of the Parc des Champs-de-Bataille, the new pavillion will act as a gateway unto the museum complex from Grande-Allée, the area's main thoroughfare.
The City of Quebec sees great potential in this new international addition to the museum, and wishes to infuse the area with an equally distinctive signature. In partnership with the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications, it thus invites professionals working in the fields of urban design and the built environment to submit proposals for an urban design ideas competition. As well as the importance of MNBAQ's major new cultural addition, participants should also consider the presence of the many actors involved in creative fields (theatre, art galleries, designers, etc.)
The goal of this competition is to provide the Quartier Montcalm with a distinct identity, in keeping with the MNBAQ. Designers are thus invited to partake in this creative process, which aims to transpose the museum's vision to the neighbourhood itself.
Designers are urged to propose concrete urban design and city entertainment solutions in order to realise a new cultural identity for this area of Quebec City's haute-ville.
