This competition's aim was to provide the Centre musical CAMMAC with a new venue permitting winter usage. The CAMMAC Centre, founded in 1952 on the shores of the Lac à la Loutre in Argenteuil County, is a charitable centre dedicated to teaching music within a family atmosphere while respecting the natural environment. This two-stage competition by invitation was launched during the summer of 2002. A total of fourteen firms responded to a national Call for Candidates, four of which were selected to develop and present a project in the competition's remunerated second stage.
The objectives of this competition were: to permit a maximum usage of the facilitates currently existing on the site; to construct a new building permitting winter use; to construct a concert hall with a pedagogical vocation and to elaborate a global planning scheme in order to maintain the unique atmosphere of the music centre. The project was also to apply principals of sustainable development that were both efficient and effective, as well as encourage complete integration within the surrounding environment. In conclusion, the centre hoped to attain an architectural project capable of transmitting the true spirit of the CAMMAC Centre, described as, "a non-profit association offering activities to amateur musicians of all ages and of all levels with the objective of developing their respective talent within a friendly, non-competitive framework."
