Agora des Arts
2018
Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada- Architecture for culture, research, sport or leisure
- Building
- Performing art building
The nature of the project lies in the transformation of the Notre-Dame-de-Protection church and the adjacent presbytery so that these existing buildings can adequately accommodate the Agora des Arts and meet the needs of its mission, the production and the dissemination of the performing arts.
The existing buildings, whose construction goes back to 1931, will be modified, renovated and enlarged, as part of major works concerning the church - the main place of the spaces directly dedicated to the production and diffusion - and smaller interventions for the presbytery: adaptation of existing premises, allocation of space and complementary functions (dressing rooms, green living room, etc.).
The present project is one of asset transformation and maintenance, which extends to two existing buildings, namely the church and the presbytery. Consequently, the work to be done is of two kinds: new initiatives, and the renovation of existing facilities. The project is mainly aimed at adding or improving the following areas:
- Reception of the public: vestibule, foyer, ticket office, cloakroom, toilets, bar, corridors, etc.
- Distribution: a theater of about 200 seats and its associated premises.
- Production: rehearsal rooms, costume workshops, sets and repairs.
- Technical and mechanical spaces necessary for the conduct of these activities, the comfort and safety of the occupants, the fire resistance of the building (sprinklers, fire resistance, exits, ventilation, etc.)
(see annex for the reports of the scenographer and engineers in structure, mechanics and electricity).
- Administrative spaces: redevelopment of existing premises.
