This limited competition was organized by the Hydro-Québec company with the intent of enlarging its headquarters and restoring a dynamic image of the company within society.
Dominated by the idea of a dialogue between the old and the new, this competition anticipated the revitalisation of an important downtown Montréal quadrilateral, that is to say an area situated between Dorchester (now know as René-Lévesque Boulevard) and Saint Laurent Boulevard. It consisted of reinforcing the urban presence of Hydro-Québec, while consolidating the conservation of the district's architectural heritage.
