As an ideas competition organised in February 2003 by the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in partnership with the City of Toronto and orchestrated by the Urban Strategies firm, within the scope of the 1001 Queen Street West property redevelopment, which was also the object of a competition in 2001 (Center for Addiction and Mental Health), this event was created to give the population an occasion to express their ideas on the future of the East property wall and it's integration to what was to become an urban village. Knowing the number of questions and divergent opinions raised by the wall, going from a demolition proposition to its patrimonial conservation, the participants were invited to submit their suggestions allowing the public to understand the importance and the history of the property.

Following a great variety of responses from architects, local artists, conservation groups, people who have experienced the mental health system as well as an entire class of the Ontario College of Art and Design, two winning teams have been selected out of the 127 propositions. Carlos Moreno and Cassie Kent, as well as Janet Rosenberg, Glenn Herman and Lynn Donoghue's ideas will be formalised and developped by the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in order to integrate them in the complex redevelopment project.
