Réinventer l’attente du bus est un ouvrage en libre accès publié sous la direction de Carmela Cucuzzella, Jean-Pierre Chupin, Emmanuel Rondia et Sherif Goubran aux éditions Potential Architecture Books (Montréal, 2021).

Ce guide créatif, résultat d’un concours international, constitue une synthèse des meilleures idées sous la forme d’une ressource gratuite visant à stimuler les discussions citoyennes et l’engagement des groupes communautaires autour de l’amélioration des petits environnements urbains reliés aux arrêts de bus.

Ce guide didactique, richement illustré, présente des idées qui incitent à l’appréciation des espaces urbains en soulignant l’importance de la nature, de l’art et du design. Réinventer l’attente du businvite les citoyens à réfléchir sur des approches créatives, quartier par quartier, arrêt de bus par arrêt de bus, qui permettraient de dynamiser ces espaces publics de manière interactive, poétique, critique et significative: faisant passer l’environnement immédiat des arrêts de bus d’une spatialité simplement fonctionnelle à une spatialité polyvalente.

Il ne s’agit pas ici de redessiner l’abribus, mais de rendre plus agréable le fait d’attendre le bus, de diverses façons, d’encourager les citoyens à utiliser le bus plutôt que leur voiture, toute l’année, y compris pendant les chaudes journées d’été et les longues périodes d’hiver glacial.

Les idées extraites de projets en provenance de nombreux pays ne sont pas présentées comme des solutions mais comme des principes illustrés rassemblé en 5 vecteurs passant de la culture aux dimensions sociales, des préoccupations écologiques aux innovations technologiques et, de façon générale, à tout ce qui peut accroître le sentiment de bien-être.

Reimagining Waiting for the Bus is an open access book edited by Carmela Cucuzzella, Jean-Pierre Chupin, Emmanuel Rondia and Sherif Goubran and published by Potential Architecture Books (Montreal, 2021).

This creative guide, the result of an international competition, is a synthesis of the best ideas in the form of a free resource aimed at stimulating citizen discussion and community group engagement around the improvement of small urban environments connected to bus stops.

This richly illustrated, educational guide presents ideas that encourage appreciation of urban spaces by emphasizing the importance of nature, art and design. Reimagining Waiting for the Bus invites citizens to think about creative approaches, neighborhood by neighborhood, bus stop by bus stop, that would energize these public spaces in an interactive, poetic, critical and meaningful way: shifting the immediate environment of bus stops from a merely functional spatiality to a multi-purpose spatiality.

This is not about redesigning the bus shelter, but about making waiting for the bus more pleasant, in various ways, encouraging citizens to use the bus instead of their car, all year round, including during hot summer days and long periods of freezing winter.

The ideas extracted from projects from many countries are not presented as solutions but as illustrated principles gathered in 5 vectors going from culture to social dimensions, from ecological concerns to technological innovations and, in general, to everything that can increase the feeling of well-being.
